COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA

SPECIAL CALLED MEETING

AUGUST 24, 2010



A Special Called Meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia was called to

order at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 24, 2009, in the Council Chambers on the

Plaza Level of the Government Center, Columbus, Georgia. Honorable W. J.

Wetherington, Mayor; and Honorable Evelyn Turner Pugh, Mayor Pro Tem presiding.

PRESENT: Present other than Mayor Wetherington and Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn Turner

Pugh were Councilors R. Gary Allen, Wayne Anthony, Mike Baker, Jerry Barnes,

Glenn Davis, Berry H. Henderson, Charles E. McDaniel, Jr., and Evelyn Woodson.

City Manager Isaiah Hugley, City Attorney Clifton Fay, Clerk of Council Tiny B.

Washington and Deputy Clerk of Council Sandra Davis were also present.

ABSENT: Councilor Julius H. Hunter, Jr., was absent.

Mayor Wetherington pointed out that Councilor Anthony?s mother-in-

law passed away on this morning; Ms. Clara Brown and said most of you

know her. He said she was a long time resident of Columbus and was a

great lady, who served on the Assault Council when he was the Chief of

Police. He said she was a very gracious lady and said we are all going to

miss her.



Councilor Anthony said she was very involved in Hospice and as

many

of you know, she started Pine & Oak Manor Nursing Homes and was very

involved in the Nursing Home community.

WITH THE COACH OF THE COLUMBUS LIONS STANDING

AT THE COUNCIL TABLE, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION

WAS SUBMITTED AND READ IN ITS ENTIRETY BY COUNCILOR

HENDERSON AND THEN ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL:________



A Resolution (280-10) ? Commending the Columbus Lions football team for

winning the 2010 Southern Indoor Football League Championship.

Councilor Henderson moved the adoption of the resolution. Seconded by Councilor

Anthony and carried unanimously by those nine members of Council present for

this meeting, with Councilor Hunter being absent.



Mr. Jason Gibson, Head Coach of the Columbus Lions Football team thanked

the Mayor & Council for the recognition honoring them this morning.

Mayor Wetherington said he appreciates the Council coming down this

morning for this Special Called meeting of the Council. He said Councilor

Hunter is in court on this morning and is unable to attend the meeting.

He said we need to go into an executive session to discuss an important

personnel matter.



Councilor Anthony then made a motion to allow the Council to go into an

executive session to discuss a personnel matter. Seconded by Councilor McDaniel

and carried unanimously by those nine members of Council present for this

meeting, with Councilor Hunter being absent from the meeting.

At 10:10 a.m. the Special Called Meeting was adjourned to allow the

Council to go into an executive session.

At 11:39 a.m., the meeting was called back to order at which time Mayor

Wetherington pointed out that the Council did meet in executive session and

discussed a personnel matter, but there were no votes taken.

With there being no other business to come before this Council, Mayor

Wetherington then asked if there was someone in the audience who wanted to

speak before the Council, but there were none. Mayor Pro Tem Turner Pugh then

made a motion for adjournment. Seconded by Councilor Henderson and carried

unanimously by those eight members of Council present at the time, with

Councilor McDaniel being absent for the vote and Councilor Hunter being absent

from the meeting, and the time of adjournment being 11:40 a.m. (Councilor

McDaniel left immediately after the adjournment of the executive session.)
