SUBJECT: Lease Agreement ? Columbus Sports Council
INITIATED BY: Department of Community Reinvestment
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a five-year Lease
Agreement with the Columbus Sports Council for use of office space at Golden
Park. (See Lease and Attachments).
Background: The Columbus Sports Council is the responsible entity for
promotion of sporting events in Columbus, Georgia. Their activities require
the need of office space to adequately carry out their responsibilities.
Analysis: The Columbus Sports Council will relinquish its current office space
in the West Wing of the Government Center for office space at Golden Park. The
City is not obligated to hold the current office space for future use by the
Sports Council. The Sports Council will be responsible for the full upkeep of
the interior of the building to include payment of cable, internet, telephone
and alarm system and the cleaning of the building for the duration of the
lease.
Financial Considerations: The Columbus Sports Council will pay $1 per year for
the use of the office space for 5 years. Should the City contract with a minor
league baseball team the Sports Council will have to vacate the office space.
Legal Considerations: Any lease agreement involving this City requires Council
approval. The City Attorney has reviewed the lease agreement and approved as
to form.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested for the City Manager to
enter into a Lease agreement with Columbus Sports Council.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH
COLUMBUS SPORTS COUNCIL FOR USE OF OFFICE AT GOLDEN PARK.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Sports Council is currently utilizing office space in the
West Wing of the Government Center for its office operations; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Sports Council will utilized the office space at
Golden Park and will be responsible for the upkeep of the interior to include
the payment of the cable, internet, telephone and alarm system costs as well as
the cleaning of the building, for the duration of the Lease; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Sports Council will pay $1 per year for the use
of the facility for 5 years, and should the City contract with a minor league
baseball team the Sports Council will have to vacate the office space; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Sports Council understands that in the event the
city of Columbus should contract with a minor league baseball club, they will
have to vacate the office space.
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to sign a lease
agreement that furthers the City's efforts to promote sporting events in
Columbus, Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a lease agreement between
Columbus Sports Council and the City for the use of office space at Golden Park
per the attached agreement.
