A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marshall Porter of Columbus died on December 4, 2009 at the
age of 101;
WHEREAS, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Annie Mae Marshall;
WHEREAS, Ms. Porter graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, DC, Fort
Valley State University, and received her Master?s Degree in Elementary
Education from the University of Michigan;
WHEREAS, she taught Claflin Elementary School, Forrest Road Elementary School,
and the Diagnostic and Remedial Center, and she retired from Muscogee County
School System after teaching more than 40 years;
WHEREAS, Ms. Porter was a member of the Muscogee Retired Teachers Association,
the National Retired Teachers Association, Gamma Tau Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Pleasure Seekers Social Club, and was an avid fan of the
Atlanta Braves;
WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Annie Mae
Marshall, sisters, Mae Willie Johnson, Bessie Wright, Fredye Marshall, Ilena
Jones and Mildred Dodson, brother, Timothy Marshall, Jr., nephews, Geoffrey
Jones and William Marshall.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Elizabeth Marshall Porter. Her service to the Muscogee County School District
and the Columbus community will long be remembered. Let a copy of this
resolution be forwarded to the family of Elizabeth Marshall Porter.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
9th day of March, 2010, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
