Georgia on the Move in Columbus
City and State Agency Heads Host Communitywide Events
Atlanta ? Senior executive management teams of the Georgia Department of Human
Resources, the Board of Pardons and Parole, the Department of Juvenile Justice,
the Department of Corrections and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council
will meet with local officials and citizens in Columbus, Georgia for a two and
a half-day communitywide program, beginning, Tuesday, November 6th, 2007.
?We are thrilled to be partnering with state agencies and citizens of Columbus
and the neighboring communities,? said Corrections Commissioner James Donald.
?This city is unique among Georgia communities and we are looking forward to
engaging them as we focus on issues affecting our communities with an emphasis
on the Governor?s commission on mental health services and the reinforced
partnership between public safety and our citizens for a safe Georgia.?
This event is a collaborative partnership between the Office of the Governor,
the Department of Human Resources, the Department of Community Health, the
Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia State Patrol, the Department of
Juvenile Justice, the Board of Pardons and Paroles, the Department of
Corrections and the distinguished city and community leadership of Columbus,
Georgia.
This unique partnership will benefit the citizens of Columbus in many ways:
clearer understandings of state services; opportunities to provide input
directly to state officials; and opportunities to ask questions about various
programs. Georgia on the Move is designed to help State Agency leadership move
forward with initiatives that will increase levels of service to our customers
? the citizens of Georgia. Below is an itinerary of events:
Tuesday, November 6th, 2007
10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Georgia Department of Corrections Career & Recruiting Booth
Student Center, Columbus State University, 4225 University Avenue.
Personnel will be available to provide information on career fields and
opportunities within the Georgia Department of Corrections. Public is invited.
2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Education Symposium
Columbus State University, 4225 University Avenue.
An opportunity for partnering community educational institutes with State Law
Enforcement Agencies in providing continuing adult education programs. Public
is invited.
Wednesday, November 7th, 2007
8:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.

Board of Public Safety Meeting

An opportunity for interested citizens to attend the Department of Public
Safety?s monthly Board meeting.
Public is invited.

Tours of Correctional Facilities
7175 Manor Road. An opportunity for interested citizens to visit and take a
limited tour of the Muscogee County Correctional Institution and the Rutledge
Transitional Center. Public is invited.

Governor?s Commission on Mental Health Services Delivery Meeting
The Foundry, Columbus Convention and Trade Center, 801 Front Avenue.
Customer Service extends to our citizens with special needs. This meeting
encourages your feedback on how to modernize and provide adequate mental health
care and substance abuse rehabilitative services. Public is invited.
Note: Following the open meeting, the Governor?s Commission travels to Rutledge
State Prison for tour/presentation.

Inter-Faith Breakfast & Faith & Character-based Re-entry Roundtable Forum
The Foundry, Columbus Convention and Trade Center, 801 Front Avenue
The breakfast and dialogue and discussion by community clergy and public
officials about current and future faith and character based re-entry
initiatives and partnerships. Invitation only.

Board of Corrections Meeting

An opportunity for interested citizens to attend the Department of Correction?s
monthly Board of Corrections meeting. Public is invited.

Tour & Demonstration at Rutledge State Prison
7175 Manor Road. An opportunity for interested citizens to visit and take a
limited tour of the Rutledge State Prison facility. The event will conclude
with capabilities demonstrations by the Department of Correction?s Special
Operations K-9 Teams and Tactical Squads. Public is invited.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United
States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and
140,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state
with nearly 15,000 employees.
