SUBJECT: Curves Donation of Exercise Equipment to Parks and

Recreation



INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation





Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept various exercise equipment

being donated to Parks and Recreation department by Curves, located in Cataula,

GA,



Background: Susan Durham is closing her Curves facility in Cataula. A

representative from Columbus Regional notified the department that Mrs. Durham

wants to donate her exercise equipment to an organization that could

possibility benefit from its use.



Analysis: Parks and Recreation is requesting to receive the exercise equipment

to be distributed amongst the Recreation Centers and Senior Centers.



Financial Considerations: This will be at no cost to the City as it is a

private donation.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None expected.



Legal Considerations: Council must approve the acceptance of this donation.



Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the donation of the exercise equipment from

Mrs. Susan Durham to be used by all participants who visit our Recreation and

Senior Centers.





A RESOLUTION

NO. _____

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT THE DONATION OF VARIOUS EXERCISE

EQUIPMENT TO USE AT RECREATION AND SENIOR CENTERS FROM CURVES.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Susan Durham would like to donate her Curves exercise equipment

to be placed at various Recreation and Senior Centers; and,



WHEREAS, Curves circuit training is for the novice and provides

strength-training rather than cardiovascular training; and,



WHEREAS, Curves training can provide aerobics capabilities; and,



WHEREAS, citizens are likely to experience less muscle soreness than when using

a machine with weighted plates; and,



WHEREAS, Circuit workout improves both strength and endurance and jump starts a

participants metabolism; and,



WHEREAS, Circuit workout is more of a total body exercise because it

incorporates resistance training for the upper body and core, as well as the

legs.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:



That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to accept

the various exercise equipment, donated by Curves, to place in the various

Recreation and Seniors Center weight rooms for all participants to use.
