A meeting of the Planning Advisory Commission was held Wednesday, April , 2007
at the Government Center Annex Building at 420 Tenth.
Commissioners Present: Chairperson Karl Douglass, Vice Chairperson Joe
Alexander, Commissioner Scott Boyce, Alternate Ron Smith.
Staff Members: Will Johnson, Planning Chief and Tina Trant, Planning Technician
Commissioners Absent: Commissioners Michael Eddings, Chris Henson, Cathy Hodge.
Others Present: Brian McDearmon, Donna Newman, Milton Jones, David Arrington,
Tom Flournoy, Rachel Baker.
This meeting was called to discuss the Highway 80 Overlay District Ordinance.
This ordinance is proposed as additional requirement for development along the
eastern portion of Highway 80, from Warm Springs Road to the Talbot County
line. A committee was created in 2005 to draft this proposed overlay district
ordinance.
Tom Flournoy, who was on the committee, spoke about the ordinance. The purpose
of the ordinance is to improve the aesthetic qualities of development within
the arterial road corridor of US Highway 80 through land use regulations. This
ordinance shall apply to all properties lying within the US Highway 80 corridor.
It shall apply to all development or redevelopment activities, residential or
retail. Design, landscaping, utilities, parking, outside displays and storage
areas, as well as storm water detention and architecture were discussed. The
meeting was adjourned at 12:50 p.m.
