MINUTES # 06-07



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, February 7,

2007, at 2:00PM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessors Lawton E. Grantham

Jr., Richard Stallings, Ann Grantham, and Pat Hunter present. Also present was

Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.



Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to excuse Assessor Pat Hunter from last

week?s meeting due to illness; Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion;

motion carried.



Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes #05-07, Assessor Richard

Stallings seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously



The Board approved two veteran exemption applications for 2007 and requested

additional information for one veteran exemption application.



The request for non-taxability for Parcel ID 099 002 037 was taken up which was

tabled on January 24, 2007. The Board denied tax exempt status for the

referenced parcel for the year 2007 because of non-qualifying use.



Mr. Thomas representing Evangel Temple Assemblies of God Inc. had an

appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors; however, he did not appear.

(Parcel ID 188 02 047, 048 & 049).



Met with Residential Division Chief Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

following:



2007 Map Splits: 2

Multi Year Map Split: 1



Res Div Chief Bob O?Brien presented to the Board a value for their

consideration concerning a property adjusted by the Board of Equalization,

which we are appealing to Superior Court. After discussion the Board decided to

present the new value to the City Attorney to convey to the taxpayer?s attorney.



Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the

Com Div Chief Linda King presented to the Board a fire report and information

as to the condition of the property at 2310 North Andrews Cir just prior to the

demolition by the City. After extensive discussion, Assessor Richard Stallings

made a motion to reduce the 2003 fair market value to $20,000 due to

information furnished regarding the condition of the building. Assessor Lawton

Grantham seconded the motion; motion carried.



Met with Personal Property Division Chief Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved

the following:



Assessment Corrections: 2(-)



Pers Prop Div Chief Oliver Juhan apprised the Board of Tax Assessors that he

had forwarded an email to Ms. Hardin with the Chamber of Commerce regarding an

industrial development bond question and had not heard from her. The Board

asked him to resend it and copy Mr. Sprouse with the Development Authority. He

also shared with the Board correspondence concerning mediation and discussed

the progress in converting personal property data to WinGap software.
