by Rhudine Nelson and seconded by Willie Hill.
Old Business
The bronze plaque honoring Mr. Howard is completed.
New Business
A volunteer at Bull Creek leaves his young daughter at the pro shop clubhouse
while he plays a round of golf. Employees are concerned for her welfare. He
will be instructed to have his daughter with him while he plays golf.
Superintendent Report by Steve Brown
The greens growth has improved with the warmer temperatures. Mowing height was
at 200th of an inch and will be at 160th of an inch next week. The greens were
dusted last week and will be re-dusted tomorrow. The fertilizer was applied to
the fairways this past week and only one application will be needed this year.
On Wednesday, May 10th, a severe storm dropped 2-? inches of rain. This caused
considerable damage to some sand bunkers and a major clean-up effort was
underway. The course re-opened at 3 p.m. on Thursday and was ready for a
tournament that was scheduled for Friday, the 12th of May.
We have six new inmates at Bull Creek.
Godwin Creek
The finances are looking good for The First Tee Program. The First Tee has
leased four more carts from Yamaha. On June 10th, the Optimist Club of
Columbus will hold its first annual tournament. The Atlanta Falcon players
will play a few holes with the First Tee kids on June 28th.
The First Tee is looking into purchasing a security camera to watch the kids
that are on the driving range. They are currently taking bids. Coming this
fall, the First Tee will adjust its fees for memberships. As always,
scholarships are available for those who cannot afford a membership.
The First Tee is looking to acquire one full-time paid employee for greens
keeping and general maintenance. Robert Francis from Bull Creek is currently
being paid a higher hourly wage at Godwin Creek than Bull Creek and might
possibly move to Godwin Creek.
Director of Golf
Bull Creek?s revenues are slightly lower than compared to the year-to-date of
2005. However, the expenses are down as well. The $72,392 deficit for the year
should be erased with additional revenue coming in before the fiscal year ends
at the end of June.
The last few weekends, the weather has been rainy and revenue has been down.
Oxbow Creek will be on tract to loose approximately $150,000 again this year.
Oxbow Creek is very rate sensitive with only 9 holes of golf.
Bull Creek should get one more year out of the greens mowers. In the future,
we will lease this equipment which in turn will save money.
Nancy Wilkeson was asked to submit a request for City Council to honor Nan and
Harry Hopkins of the First Tee of Columbus. Mr. Milam will check with Mr. Skip
Henderson to see if the request should come from the Authority members or the
Members of the First Tee Board.
Mr. Willie Hill expressed his concern why the One Columbus Tournament was held
at Callaway Gardens on Friday, May 12th instead of Bull Creek, a city course?
A tournament hosted by Easter Seals was scheduled to play on the West Course
that day.
Donald Clack adjourned the meeting at 4:28 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
