Subject: Budget Deficit

I'm sorry I missed last night's meeting; but, honestly, my granddaughter's

choral recital will always take precedence.

As healthcare spending is severely impacting the federal budget, it is taking

an inordinate chunk out of our local budget.

One way to get rid of this problem is to get out of the health insurance

business altogether.

My suggestion is to give each eligible city employee a raise equal to the

city's contribution to his healthcare premium and have the employee enroll in

Obamacare. Some employees might even benefit from the Obamacare premium subsidy.

The only downside that I can see is that an employee's pension benefit would

increase because of the salary increase, but the increased pension cost would

pale in comparison to the ever increasing healthcare premium cost.

It's too late to do anything for 2014, but certainly there is adequate time to

work out the details in time for 2015.

Thank you for your consideration.
