Agenda Report #

TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Commerce Street, No Parking - Agenda Report

INITIATED BY: Engineering

Recommendation: Approve an ordinance repealing Ordinance 07-63.

Enacting a "No Parking Anytime" on the east curb beginning at Levy Road running

southerly a distance of 660 feet. Enacting a "No Parking Anytime" zone

beginning at a point 231 feet south of the south curb of Levy Street and

running south along the west curb a distance of 60 feet. Enacting a "No

Parking Anytime" zone beginning at a point 386 feet south of the south curb of

Levy Street and running south along the west curb a distance of 190 feet.

Enacting a "No Parking Anytime" zone beginning at a point 120 feet south of the

south curb of Levy Street and running south along the east curb to a distance

of 236 feet.

Background: The Traffic Engineering Division has received a request to

modify an existing ordinance (07-63) that enacts parking restrictions along

Commerce Street. In the past, an investigation revealed that when vehicles are

parked on both sides of the street, tractor-trailers are not able to access the

loading docks or make the turn out of the loading dock areas. Currently, an

auto mechanic shop in this area will benefit from on-street parking and it

would not interfere with tractor-trailer traffic.

This ordinance will repeal all of Ordinance 07-63 and re-instate the "No

Parking Anytime" zones on Phillips Street and along the east curb of Commerce

Street. The "No Parking Anytime" zones along the west curb of Commerce will be

modified in the new ordinance as shown in the figure provided.

Analysis: The Traffic Engineering Division met with the current property owner

and the lessor of the lots impacted by the modified parking ordinance. The

owner is in favor and the lessor is not opposed to the change.

Financial Considerations: The cost of installing Official Traffic Control signs

will be derived from the Traffic Engineering operating budget.

Legal Considerations: All ordinances require the approval of Council.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the attached ordinance that modifies the "No

Parking Anytime" zones along Commerce Street and retains the Phillips Street

"No Parking Anytime" zone.
