SUBJECT: Accept Quit Claim of Property - 3508 Oberlin Drive
INITIATED BY: David Arrington, Deputy City Manager
Recommendation: Authorize to accept a Quit Claim Deed from the State of
Georgia, State Properties Commission for 2.9 acre tract, Parcel 072 008 008,
located at 3508 Oberlin Drive.
Background: Columbus Technical College utilized this property as part of the
horticulture program offered by the college. The program was discontinued and
the property was declared surplus by the Technical College System of Georgia.
The General Assembly and the State Properties Commission approved the surplus
of the property and conveyance of the property to the Consolidated Government
for public purposes.
Analysis: The property is located adjacent to the Columbus Botanical Gardens
and was utilized by the agency in partnership with Columbus Technical College
in support of the horticulture program. The property is virtually land locked
and could not be developed due to the lack of street frontage. The property has
the potential to be utilized for public purposes for the benefit of the
community. The property is undeveloped woodlands and would not require ongoing
maintenance.

A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO ACCEPT OF PROPERTY FROM THE STATE OF GEORGIA,
STATE PROPERTIES COMMISSION FOR A 2.9 ACRE TRACT, PARCEL 072 008 008 LOCATED AT
3508 OBERLIN DRIVE.
WHEREAS, Columbus Technical College utilized a 2.9 acre tract of property
located at 3508 Oberlin Drive adjacent to the Columbus Botanical Gardens in the
horticulture program; and,
WHEREAS, Columbus Technical College discontinued offering a horticulture
program and the property was declared surplus by the Technical College System
of Georgia; and,
WHEREAS, The General Assembly approved the surplus of the 2.9 acre tract and
conveyance of the property to the Consolidated Government in Act No. 595, S.R.
788; and,
WHEREAS, The State Properties Commission approved the conveyance of the
property to the Consolidated Government of Columbus on June 11, 2014 for
perpetual public use and,
WHEREAS, The Consolidated Government of Columbus desires to acquire the
property for public purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept said property from the
State of Georgia, State Properties Commission for a 2.9 acre tract, Parcel 072
008 008 located at 3508 Oberlin Drive to be used for public purposes.
