SUBJECT: Columbus Police Department ? DARE Program



INITIATED BY: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention





Recommendation: Approve a resolution requesting to extend the contract with

the Columbus Police Department DARE to be GREAT summer program through June 30,

2014.



Background: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has agreed to recommend using

the balance of the funding for the DARE to be GREAT summer program approved by

Resolution No. 173-13 for the 2013 program expiring on May 28, 2014.



Analysis: Funds will be used to pay for quality programming as well as

mentoring for juveniles.



Financial Considerations: These funds are appropriated from the Other Local

Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention Program and do not require a match.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: No annual fiscal impact.



Legal Considerations: Council approval is required for the contract extension.



Recommendations/Actions: Approve a resolution requesting to extend the

contract with the Columbus Police Department DARE to be GREAT summer program

through June 30, 2014.





A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXTENSION OF THE CONTRACT WITH THE

COLUMBUS POLICE DEPARTMENT, DARE TO BE GREAT PROGRAM.



WHEREAS, Columbus Council approved the DARE to be Great summer program on May

28, 2013 by Resolution No. 173-13; and,



WHEREAS, there is a balance available to continue the summer program in 2014;

and,



WHEREAS, the funding is appropriated in the FY14 Other Local Option Sales Tax,

Crime Prevention Program.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



That the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized to extend the contract

through Columbus Office of Crime Prevention with the Columbus Police Department

through June 30, 2014 for the balance of the funding to be used for the 2014

DARE to be Great summer program. Funds were budgeted in the FY14 budget, Other

Local Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention Program.
