Agenda Item # 2

Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

March 22, 2011

Agenda Report # 613

TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Columbus Civic Center/Ice Rink ? Rental Rates

INITIATED BY: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager,

Columbus Civic Center

Recommendation: Approval is requested for the adoption of the Columbus Civic

Center and Ice Rink Rental Rates through June 30, 2011 (End of Fiscal Year). An

Ordinance with final rates will be a part of the FY12 Budget.

Background: The Columbus Ice Rink will be opening in April 2011 and there is a

need to institute rental rates prior to opening in categories of Prime Time,

Non-Prime Time and Weekends.

Analysis: A comparative research of other ice rinks has been done to show the

need for an increase. The increase would still place the Columbus Ice Rink

rental rates lower than other markets.

Financial Considerations: The research has determined we are well below other

rinks. Any rate changes require approval of the Council.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: This increase in fee will provide an

increase of revenue for both the Civic Center and the Ice Rink to offset

operations/maintenance.

Legal Considerations: Council is the approving authority for all resolutions.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested to adopt private ice time

rental rates for the Civic Center and the New Ice Rink that is scheduled

effective April 1, 2011.
