RESOLUTION

NO._________

WHEREAS, the US Army has released the findings of a Supplemental Programmatic

Environmental Assessment (SPEA) which sets criteria to determine whether, if

Sequestration continues, will result in losses of soldiers and civilian

positions on Fort Benning, Georgia;

WHEREAS, approximately 14,000 jobs are at stake when one includes soldiers,

civil service employees, defense contractor?s positions as well as regional

jobs that would be lost based on a reduction of goods and services;

WHEREAS, the Army will consider many factors before a decision is made,

including environmental, socioeconomic impact on employment and population,

costs, and soldier and family quality of life;

WHEREAS, the projected economic impact of a loss of this magnitude when one

considers salary, sales and taxes received will exceed $1.3 Billion annually;

WHEREAS, this council certainly understands that the US Army is responding to

the potential impacts of continued Sequestration and the US Army does not want

to reduce the military as described in this resolution.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
