Mr. Watson asked if there were any other previous requests to name a field at
South Commons in honor of an individual? Deputy Clerk of Council Davis
responded by saying that this is the only other one that she could recall with
the exception of the naming of Field #1 at South Commons in honor of late Ms.
Janice Davis, the former Sports Council Director.
After Deputy Clerk of Council Davis responded to various questions from the
board members, Judge Peters pointed out that there are only so many fields that
could be named in honor of individuals and we receive a number of requests. He
then asked if any family members wanted to be heard at this time.
Ms. Peggy Borrero stood at this time and said that Mr. Pasko dedicated his life
to recreation. She pointed out that Mr. Pasko played on Field #8 with the
Maple Ridge Seniors Team, as well as, opened and closed up all of the fields
for the Parks & Recreation Department. He also trained the umpires, as
outlined in the letter from Mr. Donald Brown with the Columbus Umpires
Association.
Mr. Artie Shaw also rose from his seat to say that he and the late Mr. Pasko
were friends for over 52 years. He said that the Mr. Pasko believed in
recreation and this town. He said if umpire classes needed to be taught, Mr.
Pasko did it and would not charge for this service. He then asked for
consideration for the approval of this request.
Mr. Hydrick then moved approval of the request. Seconded by Mr. Watson and
carried unanimously by those five members present for this meeting.
There being no other business to discuss, this meeting adjourned at 3:12 p.m.
