BOARD OF HONOR



Meeting

February 15, 2012



Members Present: Mr. Billy Watson; Mr. Bob Hydrick; Judge Bobby Peters; Mr.

Milton Hirsch and Mr. John ?Jack? Rodgers.



Members Absent: Judge Clay Land and Mr. John Wells were absent.







Mailouts: Initial request from Attorney Leslie Cohn to name one of the fields

at South Commons in honor of Mr. Charles Wright. The request was submitted to

the Council and called for by Councilor Henderson.



Ms. Shondell Duncan, recording secretary called the meeting to order at 3:05

p.m. in the Ground Floor Conference Room, Government Center. There was a quorum

present for the meeting.



Request: Name one of the ball fields at South Commons in honor of Mr. Charles

Wright:



Board members were provided a copy of Ordinance No. 11-57, adopted by the

Council on November 8, 2011, which places the naming of City Streets after

persons under the review of the Board of Honor. Some members of the board

expressed their concerns about this additional requirement and requested that

City Attorney Fay provided clarification on the ordinance.



Mr. Bob Hydrick explained that he does not know this individual but he has

heard of him. He further explained that he is supportive of this request.



Mr. Jack Rodgers provided some additional information about Mr. Charles

Wright in that he played softball for a number of churches and other

organizations in Columbus, Georgia. He then made a motion to approve the

request to name one of the fields at South Commons in honor of Mr. Charles

Wright. Seconded by Mr. Hirsch and carried unanimously by those five members

present for this meeting.



Mr. Billy Watson explained that a number of Little League Fields have been

named in honor of people. He then made a motion requesting that Council look

into setting a time-line for such honorary dedication to 15 years, especially

when the families no longer utilizes or attend functions at the parks. Seconded

by Mr. Hydrick and carried unanimously by those five members present for this

meeting.





With no further business to come before this board, meeting was adjourned,

with the time being 3:39 p.m.
