Response Director of Human Resources conducted a quick check and found that
there are multiple presciption discount programs available and a number
sponsored by government agencies. The Georgia Community Health Dept also
offers a program called Rx Outreach through the National Conference of State
Legislatures and Express Scripts that is free but has income limits for
participation. Bottom line this is a community outreach type program that is
not part or our core mission; in addition our expertise and ability to identify
the best plan for our citizens is also limited. The other consideration for
which we must be aware is that although offered through NLC, this is a product
provided by CVS a private company and we need to be careful not to promote one
private company over another. In consultation with the City Manager it was
determined that our approach will be to work with purchasing to develop and
distribute an RFP for the offering of a discount prescription program to our
citizens. Susan Lathan in HR is the lead person on this project. We will
report progress as it becomes available. Please advise of any questions or
concerns.h
