Commissioners Present: Beth Bergin, Bill Consoletti, Ann Davis, Carlton
Gardner, Marie Lewis, Sandra Mason, Linda McLemore, Kenneth Queen,
Patricia Cardin, Pam Feagle, Eva Smith, Selby Rollinson.
Commissioners Absent: Frank Porter, Earnest Baulkmon, Bernie Corcoran,
Jr.,Virginia Dickerson, Susie Hamlett, Barry Jenkins, Cheryl Johnson, Dr.
William Kendall, Priscilla Marshall, Greg Paul, Elliott Waddell, Larry
Trammell, Jim Miller.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Davis.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF DECEMBER 13, 2006.
Minutes were approved and seconded.

Christmas Tree Recycling: Bill Consoletti asked to give his report first since
he needed to leave. A total of 7,450 trees were chipped. MeadWestvaco gives
us $.50 a tree. We received a total of $3725.00 for the chipped trees. More
trees were chipped last year.
Bill stated there is a cap of $5,000.00 to be made if we can get more people to
bring their trees for chipping.
TREASURER?S REPORT
The Treasurer?s report was presented by Executive Director Gloria Weston Smart
and approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Scenic Byways January 25, 2006 Meeting: The meeting was well attended with
representatives from three counties, Muscogee, Troup and Harris. Gloria asked
that Troup and Harris counties write a letter of support to the project. Also
Jaeger Company was asked to draft an application to be sent to us within 30
days.
Trees Columbus, Inc. Coalition for Sound Growth Meeting Update: A letter has
been submitted in support of the Big Box Coalition. It was requested that all
Commissioners be e-mailed a copy of the letter. The letter was sent to Trees
Columbus, Inc.
NEW BUSINESS
Nominating Committee:

Pam Feagle will be in charge of the nominating committee. The outgoing
commissioners are asked to serve on the committee.
Uptown Community Improvement Meeting: The committee is set to kick off a
campaign in the Uptown Columbus area. A residents meeting is scheduled for
Thursday, February 23, 2006, at the Liberty Theatre.
Executive Director?s Update
The governor has placed back in the budget line item for Solid Waste Trust Fund
in the amount of $1.5m. The money will be used for Environmental Education
Projects. The governor has a Litter Task Force. Part of the committee?s
responsibility is to develop a PR campaign and to develop a brand or slogan
which will be used by the entire state. The Task Force will also present
amendments to the litter law which would include enhancements to litter
violation enforcement.
HIGHLIGHTS OF UPCOMING KCBC PROGRAMS
Telephone Book Recycling: The schools who won the competition and were awarded
the money, were printed in the Earthnotes for January 2006.
Bring One For the Chipper: Commissioner Linda McLemore stated what a success
and how much fun this project is. Shirley Winston site may have some changes
for next year.
City-wide Arbor Day ? February 4, 2006 Oxbow Meadow Environmental Learning
Center: The attendance was not great, but the kids had a great time. Tim
Womack did his show again. We are considering moving it to Lakebottom next
year.
Earth Day ? April 22, 2006(with Altrusa of Columbus Date/Location TBA)
KCBC Awards Luncheon, May 11, 2006: Plans are well underway. The Speaker will
be Carol Couch and our MC is Miss Georgia. A group of students from Brookstone
School will sing for us.
Tour of Gardens, May 20, 2006: We have all gardens committed. We will need
volunteers to man each garden. Tickets are $20.00 per person or a group rate
of 10 or more $15.00. Commissioners will be asked to help sell tickets.
