JOB TITLE: Ice Rink Manager CIV/17



DEPARTMENT: Civic Center, Columbus Consolidated Government



JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for managing the daily operation and

maintenance of the Ice Rink.



MAJOR DUTIES:



Manage, plan and coordinate the ice rink facility, games and tournaments.



Create rules and regulations to ensure the safety of program participants.



Establish sound financial management including rental and ice rink use.



Set up new programs; manage established hockey programs i.e. youth, adult,

college and professional.



Train and direct event staff. Provide administrative, professional and

technical guidance to subordinates.



Coordinate with the Operation Manager for overflow needs, facility maintenance

and facility cleanliness.



Update Web site with rink activities. Create links to league schedules,

standings, and photos.



Coordinate with the Marketing Manager to promote the ice rink and its programs.



Responsible for Dasher Board sales and interior rink sponsors.



Maintain inventory of supplies and materials. Prepares bids for quotes and

requisitions according to purchasing policy guidelines.



Maintain record of activities; complete reports and make recommendations.



Meet with interested parties, City employees and officials to evaluate

community needs.



Attend meetings, seminars and conferences of professional associates and other

groups to keep a breast of trends and developments.



Performs other related duties as assigned.







KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:



Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and safety precautions used in

planning, promoting, executing and maintaining a diversified ice program.



Knowledge of civic resources, interested organizations, funding sources and the

potential of and limitations on the uses applicable to an ice program.



Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in maintaining an ice rink.



Knowledge of the principles and practices of budgetary administration.



Skill in problem solving and decision-making.



Skill in management and supervision.



Skill in operating standard office equipment.



Skill in oral and written communication.



Ability to skate



Ability to use critical thinking skills to define problems, collect data,

establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.



SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Civic Center Director assigns work in terms of very

general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance

with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.



GUIDELINES: Guidelines include applicable local, state, and federal laws and

department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment,

selection, and interpretation in application.



COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied administrative and management duties.

Must work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays as

necessary to complete job responsibilities.



SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to manage the daily

operation of the Ice Rink facility. Successful performance results in the

provision of amateur ice rink programs and opportunities that result in an

improved quality of life for area residents



PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, representatives of

affiliate organizations, elected officials, volunteers, participants, and the

general public.



PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information,

resolve problems, motivate personnel, provide services.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or

table but at times calls for extensive walking and standing for long periods of

time. The employee may be required to lift light and occasionally heavy objects

up to 30 pounds and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. Must

be able to climb stairs, skate and set up equipment for events.



WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office or the ice rink

facility. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery

with moving parts. Work may require the use of protective devices such as

masks, goggles, and gloves.



SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct

supervision over assigned part-time and event staff employees.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a

baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.



Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate

positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually

associated with more than five years experience or service.



Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid state driver's license.
