Subject Signs
Description Have the staff to consider putting up more signage in the
neighborhoods letting drivers know what the speed limit is, as well as look at
putting up a sign that says ?Children at Play? to make the motorists aware that
they are there. Also, look at doing so segments on CCG-TV to emphasize this
fact. (Request of Councilor Hunter

Response May 15, 06 - Traffic Engineering Division surveyed existing traffic
signs from Aton St. north to Alpone Dr to include Swann St. It is our practice
to use "Speed Limit" signs (30 MPH) to all subdivision entry streets since all
residential streets are 30 MPH unless otherwise posted. We use "Watch for
Children" signs for citizen inquiries that have streets with numerous children
for safety notices. I will attach a propose new sign layout using 30 MPH Speed
Limit & Watch for Children signs Tuesday morning. This layout includes adding
15 signs at a cost of $1,125. Traffic Engineering budgeted $140,488 dollars to
purchase materials/supplies for which about 65% is used for signs or $91,317.
We install a little over 3,000 signs each year. Should Council desire to adopt
a policy of installing speed limit & Watch for Children signs on all
residential, we will need to seek funding in an amount of $300,000 to
accommodate a new policy.
