OF SEPTEMBER 10, 2OO8

George Stanton, Chairman, called the meeting to order. Present at the meeting

were Ken Henson, Secretary, James Head, Milton Anthony, Dorothy McDaniel,

Chairman Stanton announced that the three large positions have been filled by

the City Council. Chris Copley and Steve Smith are new members that were

the next meeting.

Scott Jones gave a report on the current status of the Master Street Tree Plan

(MSTP). Columbus, Georgia has been following this plan since2004 but it has

never been formally adopted. The plan was prepared by Larry French in2004.

Scott has it in a pdf. Dorothy McDaniel has highlighted the streets that are

covered under the plan and additional streets attached to the plan.

In 2009, Columbus, Georgia will have $90,000.00to buy trees. City employees

will be used to plant the trees. Scott recommends that the City continue

following the current plan and do some planning on 13'n Street from Lewis Jones

towards Downtown. This would involve cutting planting areas into the concrete.

Scott also recommended that we work in South Columbus along roads that are

designated a part of the community improvement area.

Gloria announced that on September 29, 2008 there will be a Community

Improvement Meeting at 6:00 pm at Girls, Inc.

A Motion was made by Gloria Smart to present to the City the 2004 Master Street

Tree Plan by French & Associates and requests that Columbus, Georgia City

Council formally adopt this as a beautification plan for Columbus, Georgia and

its Tree Plan. Dorothy seconded this motion and it passed unanimously.

Ken Henson, Jr. volunteered to find out from the City Attorney Clifton Fay

about the best way to proceed to have the plan formally adopted and further

agreed to contact Glenn Davis to sponsor and put it on the agenda. It was

agreed that a copy of the plan would be given to all the City Councilors before

the meeting either personally or with the packet. Dorothy and Scott would do a

presentation when it was presented to the City.

Gloria announced that Arbor Day will be February 21, 2009 at Lake Bottom from

10:00 a.m. ? 1:00 p.m. Steve Smith has agreed to Chair. She hopes Country's

will come back and sale food.

Wayne Anthony asked if anyone on the Board had any suggestions about planting

trees and helping Jordan High School start a horticulture program. Several

members provided information. Wayne's wife, Jane Anthony, would be the contact

person at Jordan High School. Samantha Reese is at Columbus Tech and Wayne was

encouraged to have his wife contact her. Nicole Sanders could also be contacted

at the Botanical Garden.

A meeting schedule for the remaining meetings for 2008 and 2009 was distributed

with the dates being December 10, 2008, March 11, 2009, June 10, 2009,

September 9, 2009, and December 9, 2009. Gloria will continue to send out

notices. The meetings will now be held in the Trees Columbus office.
