The terms of office of Mr. Bruce Smith, Mr. Brian Plemmons and Mr. John
Shinkle on the Convention & Visitors Board of Commissioners will expire on
December 31, 2009. Mr. Smith and Mr. Shinkle are both eligible to succeed
themselves. Mr. Plemmons is not eligible to succeed himself, as this will be
the end of his second full term of office on the board.
Mr. Smith?s seat is designated to represent the attraction/tourism
industry, Mr. Shinkle serves in an at-large position and Mr. Plemmons
represents the hotel industry.
I have received two bio sketch forms from Ms. Susan Henderson, as well as
Ms. Judy Talley, who are interested in serving on this board.
Members of this board are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the
Council. There are currently two women serving on this board.
Attached is a list of the current members as well as a copy of the data
sheet on this board.

CREATED BY: Ordinance No. 80-51, adopted April 29, 1980, as amended by Ord.
No. 91-05, adopted February 5, 1991, as amended by Ord. No. 95-49, adopted June
13, 1995, pursuant to the provisions of Act No. 1204, H.B. No. 1854, signed
into law on March 25, 1980. (Sec. 2-91, Columbus Code)
CHARTER REFERENCE: No reference to this specific board, but see Section 4-104,
General Provisions Concerning Boards, Commissions, and Authorities.
COLUMBUS CODE REFERENCE: Sections 2-91 through 2-99.
COMPOSTION OF BOARD: It has fourteen appointed members, plus the Mayor who
serves as an ex officio member and the executive director of the Convention and
Visitor?s Bureau, who is not entitled to vote. (Cols. Code Secs. 2-91 through
2-92)
QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS: Shall be citizens of Columbus and qualified by law
to vote at elections for the selection of the Mayor and members of the Columbus
Council. (Col. Code Sec. 2-91). ONE MEMBER shall be the owner or manager of a
hotel or motel. ONE MEMBER shall be selected from the food service industry.
ONE MEMBER shall be selected from the board of directors of the Columbus
Chamber of Commerce. ONE MEMBER shall be selected from the board of directors
of the Historic Columbus Foundation, and TEN MEMBERS shall be selected at
large. (Col. Code Sec. 2-92)

Columbus Council.

POWERS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This board was established to promote
tourism, trade, and conventions in Columbus.
COMPENSATION: Members are not compensated.

Meeting Date: Once a month -- Third Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.
