An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 04-38 so as to provide that a Deputy Warden

of the Muscogee County Prison shall be appointed in accordance with state law;

and for other purposes.

THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY ORDAINS:



SECTION 1.



Ordinance No. 04-38, Policy Number 420-100, APPOINTMENT TO THE RANK OF DEPUTY

WARDEN, is hereby amended by deleting the existing section in its entirety and

substituting a new section to read as follows:



APPOINTMENT TO THE RANK OF DEPUTY WARDEN



QUALIFICATIONS:



Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive responsibility within the

field of corrections to include five (5) years in management capacity with a

minimum rank at least commensurate with that of Lieutenant.



Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice or a related field.



PROCESS:



The Warden shall advertise the position both within the Muscogee County Prison

and in a manner calculated to reach qualified candidates working in other

County or State facilities under the supervision of the Georgia Department of

Corrections. At his or her discretion, the Warden may advertise the position to

reach candidates of similar experience serving in institutions outside of the

State of Georgia.After reviewing all applications for the position, the Warden

will recommend three candidates to the Mayor. In accordance with O.C.G.A. ?

42-5-30, the Deputy Warden shall be appointed by the Mayor, confirmed by

Council and approved by the Georgia Board of Corrections.



SECTION 2.



All ordinances or parts of ordinances and policies which are in conflict with

this ordinance are hereby repealed.
