Minutes
The Muscogee County Board of Elections and Registration held the regularly
scheduled meeting on January 3, 2008. The Chairperson, Mr. Walter J. Wright,
called the meeting to order. The minutes of the November board meeting were
approved by a unanimous vote.
The Board voted to accept the nominations from the Democratic and Republican
parties for the Vote Review Panel for the remainder of 2008. The Republican
appointee is Kevin Earley. The Democratic appointee is Juanita Booker. The
Board voted to appoint Diane Scrimpshire as the Board representative.
The Board approved sending the qualifying fee schedule to the city attorney for
approval by the Council of Columbus, Georgia. The qualifying fees will be
published in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer prior to January 31, 2008 in a legal
notice.
The Registration Coordinator reported that all UOCAVA ballots were mailed on
December 12, 2007. There were 29 ballots mailed to military personnel in the
United States; 24 ballots to military personnel overseas; 7 ballots to
civilians who are overseas. The Ballot Transit Time Survey was faxed to the
Office of the Secretary of State on January 4, 2008.
The Office of the Secretary of State has provided three on line training
courses to be completed by the appropriate elections personnel. The director
requested that the Board approve a $10 payment to each poll worker who
successfully completes the programs and who attach the certification of
completion to the poll worker payroll sheet on Election Day. The Board
approved $10 per class.
The Director advised the Board that the poll worker training would be conducted
during the month of January for all workers.
The Board agreed to hold the February board meeting on the date of the
Presidential Preference Primary that is February 5, 2008.
