SUBJECT: Beaver Run Road: Street Layout Variance for the Kitten Lake
subdivision
INITIATED BY: Department of Engineering
Recommendation: Approval is requested to authorize a variance to the city code
section 7.3.4 Street Layout to allow for an intersection separation distance of
500 feet along Beaver run Road between ?Street A? and Kitten Lake Drive.
Background: The Traffic Engineering Division received site plans that
indicated a need to request a variance to the City Code requirements.
Analysis: The Traffic Engineering Division reviewed the site plans and
recommends approval of the variance.
Financial Considerations: There are no costs to the City beyond administrative
cost for permitting and inspections.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: There is no fiscal impact.
Legal Considerations: A variance to the City Code requirements for street
layout requires Council approval.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the recommended variance to the City Code
section 7.3.4 Street Layout to allow for an intersection separation distance
less than 800 feet along Beaver run Road between ?Street A? and Kitten Lake
Drive.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A VARIANCE TO CITY CODE SECTION 7.3.4 STREET LAYOUT,
PARAGRAPH A. MINIMUM SEPARATION INTERVAL: INTERSECTION WITH ARTERIAL STREETS
SHALL BE AT LEAST 800 FEET APART MEASURED FROM CENTER LINE TO CENTER LINE, TO
ALLOW AN INTERVAL OF 500 FEET BETWEEN THE CENTER LINES OF ?STREET A? AND KITTEN
LAKE DRIVE ALONG BEAVER RUN ROAD.
WHEREAS, Beaver Run Road (U.S. 80) is a four lane arterial with a center
median; and,
WHEREAS, the developer of Kitten Lake subdivision proposes a second public
street access to Beaver Run Road; and,
WHEREAS, the intersection of ? Street A? with Beaver Run Road is less than 800
feet from Kitten Lake Drive; and,
WHEREAS, the variance will allow ? Street A? access to Beaver Run Road at an
interval of 500 feet from Kitten Lake Drive; and,
WHEREAS, a preliminary site plan is attached and made part of this resolution
by reference; and,
WHEREAS, the Traffic Engineering Division investigated the request
and recommends the variance be approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
THAT A VARIANCE TO CITY CODE SECTION 7.3.4 STREET LAYOUT, PARAGRAPH
A. MINIMUM SEPARATION INTERVAL: INTERSECTION WITH ARTERIAL STREETS SHALL BE AT
LEAST 800 FEET APART MEASURED FROM CENTER LINE TO CENTER LINE, IS HEREBY
AUTHORIZED TO ALLOW AN INTERVAL OF 500 FEET BETWEEN THE CENTER LINES OF ?STREET
A? AND KITTEN LAKE DRIVE ALONG BEAVER RUN ROAD AS REFERENCED HERE WITHIN.
