SUBJECT: Fire Department - FY14 Other Local Option Sales Tax Capital

Request



INITIATED BY: Fire Department / Finance Department





Recommendation: Approve a resolution allocating $56,323 of the FY14

Budget-Other Local Option Sales Tax Capital Reserve for the Fire Department for

equipment needed for paramedic training to remain in compliance with the

Georgia State Office of EMS and accreditation. (List attached.)



Background: The FY14 Budget for the Other Local Option Sales Tax was approved

on June 18, 2013, and included $3,756,674 for a Capital Reserve. To date, this

fiscal year, $225,956 has been approved for the replacement of MCP?s washers

and dryers, $400,000 for renovations to the Police Department storage facility,

and $45,000 for replacement of the Fire Department?s computer. The capital

reserve balance is $3,085,718.



Analysis: The FY14 OLOST Capital Reserve is maintained for fund balance reserve

and can be utilized for required capital with the approval of council.



Financial Considerations: The request is made for the paramedic training to

remain in compliance.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: No annual fiscal impact.



Legal Considerations: Council approval is required for allocation of Other LOST

capital reserve.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO APPROPRIATE $56,323 FROM THE FY14 BUDGET-OTHER

LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX CAPITAL RESERVE TO THE FIRE/EMS DEPARTMENT TO PURCHASE

NEEDED EQUIPMENT FOR PARAMEDIC TRAINING TO REMAIN IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE

GEORGIA STATE OFFICE OF EMS AND ACCREDITATION (LIST IS ATTACHED).



WHEREAS, Columbus Council approved the FY14 Operating Budget on June 18, 2013;

and,



WHEREAS, the FY14 Other Local Option Sales Tax Capital Reserve was established

at $3,756,674; and,



WHEREAS, the FY14 Other Local Option Sales Tax Capital Reserve balance is

$3,085,718; and



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



That the City Manager is hereby authorized to allocate $56,343 to the Fire/EMS

Department for equipment needed for paramedic training to remain in compliance

with the Georgia State Office and Accreditation.
