MINUTES # 35-10
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, September 27, 2010 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton and Assessor Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann
Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief Appraiser
Betty J. Middleton. Assessor Derrick Shields was absent.
A quorum was not present who attended the previous meeting; signing of Min34-10
was delayed.
Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to excuse Assessor Derrick Shields, Assessor
Ann Grantham seconded the motion; motion carried.
The Board signed assessment corrections for real estate.
Mr. Tice had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors; however, did not
appear (Pers Prop Acct. # 06446401). The Board of Tax Assessors reviewed the
staff?s write-up; however, took no action.
Met with Ms. Hawkins regarding her personal property account # 06009901. Ms.
Hawkins stated that she closed her business in February of 2002 and thought her
business license was closed at that time. She closed her business license
September 27, 2010. After discussion Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to
leave the value as is for 2002 and reduce the value to $7,400 for tax years
2003 and 2004. Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the motion; motion carried.
Met with Mr. Rowsey concerning his personal property account # 06460791. Mr.
Rowsey stated he never started the business after he purchased the business
license in November 2002. He closed his business license December 2003. After
discussion the Board agreed the business would be taxable for 2003 because
there was an active business license and the taxpayer did not respond to the
personal property tax return or Official Tax Notice. The Board took no action.
Mr. Johnson had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors, however, did
not appear (Pers Prop Acct 06497401). The Board of Tax Assessors reviewed the
staff?s write-up; however, took no action.

Com Div Mgr Linda King discussed with the Board a pending court case. Also they
discussed the taxability of PID 004 002 003.
