SUBJECT: Fiscal Year 2010 Homeland Security Grant Program
INITIATED BY: Columbus, Georgia Office of Homeland Security
Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application, and if
approved, accept a grant in the amount of $266,480, or that approved amount,
from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the Department of Homeland
Security Fiscal Year 2010 Homeland Security Grant Program/State Homeland
Security Program for Explosive Device Response Operations for the Columbus,
Georgia Office of Homeland Security, and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by
the amount awarded.
Background: Funds have been allocated to the State of Georgia to prevent,
protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major
disasters, and other emergencies in accordance with the goals and objectives of
the State Strategic Plan. The Columbus, Georgia Office of Homeland Security is
eligible for $266,480.
Analysis: Funding of this grant will vastly improve our ability to prevent,
protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major
disasters, and other emergencies in accordance with the goals and objectives of
the State Strategic Plan.
Financial Considerations: The grant is for $266,480, or the amount approved,
with no matching funds. The funds will be used to provide equipment for the
Columbus, Georgia Hazardous Devices Response Team.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government has been notified
of its eligibility to receive the funds.
Recommendations/ Actions: Authorize to submit an application, and if
approved, accept a grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the
Department of Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2010 Homeland Security Grant
Program/State Homeland Security Grant Program.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, AND IF AWARDED, ACCEPT A
$266,480 GRANT FROM THE GEORGIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY FOR THE COLUMBUS,
GEORGIA OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT FOR THE HAZARDOUS
DEVICES RESPONSE TEAM.
WHEREAS, the grant period runs from August 1, 2010 to July 31, 2012.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application, and if
approved, accept a $266,480 grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency
for the Department of Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2010 Homeland Security
Grant Program/State Homeland Security Program for Explosive Device Response
Operations for the Columbus, Georgia Office of Homeland Security to purchase
equipment for the Columbus, Georgia Hazardous Devices Response Team.
