Agenda Item # 4
Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
11/27/2018
Agenda Report # 58
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Cooper Creek Park Sidewalk
INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into an agreement with
CORTA for the addition of a sidewalk at Cooper Creek Tennis Center.
Background: The City has been in a partnership with CORTA for several
years concerning promoting the game of tennis to the surrounding area. Cooper
Creek Tennis Center is the home of this partnership. With a recent expansion
project twelve hard courts and ten clay courts were added to the Tennis Center.
The tennis complex is lacking a sidewalk near the newly built courts, restroom
facility and concession areas. This agreement will add an ADA compliant
sidewalk at Cooper Creek Tennis Center. This is for safety reasons for the
patrons utilizing Cooper Creek Tennis Center when crossing the road to the
newly expanded courts.
Analysis: The expansion of Cooper Creek Tennis Center is a
public/private partnership that is projected to have a significant impact on
promoting tennis in Columbus. The City's partnership with CORTA will continue
to provide a premier competition facility for collegiate, high school, and
recreational tennis tournaments.
Financial Considerations: The total cost of this project is $31,808.00. The
City will contribute up to $15,904.00 for this project from OLOST ROAD
Infrastructure Project 92020 Cooper Creek ADA.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None is expected.
Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed the agreement and
approved as to form. Council must approve the agreement with the City and
CORTA.
Recommendations/Actions: Approve the execution of the agreement with CORTA for
the addition of an ADA sidewalk at Cooper Creek Tennis Center.
