SUBJECT: ACCG Civic Affairs Foundation Grant



INITIATED BY: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager



Recommendation: Approval is requested to authorize the City Manager to submit

an application and accept, if awarded, an ACCG Civic Affairs Foundation Grant

in the amount of $7,500, or as otherwise awarded, with no local match

requirements to be used for the Youth Advisory Council events and activities

and to amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount of the award.



Background: The Mission of the Youth Advisory Council is to broaden the scope

of youth leadership in Columbus, Georgia through voluntarism, service and

initiatives that are directed towards allowing youth input into policy issues,

identifying youth issues, and participating in the development of positive

solutions.



Analysis: The available funds will be distributed through a competitive

application process. Counties who want to start a new GCAPS program as well as

counties who have county led youth programs already in place are eligible for

funding. Existing GCAPS initiatives or other county government led youth

programs can apply for funding. The grant funds for existing youth/ GCAPS

programs should not be used as ?general funds? but for a specific purpose.



If awarded, the YAC will Host a Community Wide Youth Summit on the issue of

Bullying and Cyberbullying. They recently hosted a Talk Show in conjunction

with Columbus Against Bullying and recognize the importance of making this a

priority in our community.



Financial Considerations: The grant request is $7,500 with no local match.



Legal Considerations: None.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND ACCEPT,

IF AWARDED, AN ACCG CIVIC AFFAIRS FOUNDATION GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,500, OR

AS OTHERWISE AWARDED, WITH NO LOCAL MATCH REQUIREMENTS TO BE USED FOR THE YOUTH

if awarded, an ACCG Civic Affairs Foundation Grant in the amount of $7,500, or

as otherwise awarded and amend the Multi-governmental Fund by the amount

awarded.
