Agenda Item # 1

Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

January 9, 2007

Agenda Report # 71

TO: Mayor and Councilors

SUBJECT: RiverCenter Parking - Student Day Rate

INITIATED BY: Department of Transportation/METRA

Recommendation: Approval is request to reduce the monthly parking lease

for Day Students at the RiverCenter's parking deck to $15 Monday-Friday.

Background: Columbus State University is expecting 300 additional

students that will have parking needs in Uptown as a result of the Music and

the new Arts Program. These students will be non-housing students and will

need to park in the parking deck to attend classes. In an effort to assist

CSU students and provide some level of incentive not to park on the street, a

reduced monthly parking lease is necessary. Students taking advantage of the

reduced day rate will enter into a monthly lease agreement with METRA (see

attached).

Analysis: The Department of Transportation/METRA will work with CSU

staff to introduce the students to Uptown Parking and give them an opportunity

to make the necessary arrangements to get signed up for the monthly parking.

January 8-12, 2007 will be free to all CSU students with a valid student I.D.

card.

Financial Considerations: The proposed day student rate will be $15 per month

with a one time refundable card fee of $15.

Legal Considerations: None.

Recommendations/Actions: Approve the Day Student Monthly rate for parking in

the RiverCenter Parking Deck.to $15 Monday-Friday.
