AN ORDINANCE
NO.
WHEREAS, O.C.G.A. Section 3-3-7(q) authorizes counties in which package sales
of malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits are lawful to authorize such
sales by licensed retailers on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 P.M. and
11:30 P.M. if such Sunday sales are approved at referendum;
WHEREAS, this Council desires for such referendum to occur in Columbus, Georgia
on the date of the general primary, July 31, 2012.
THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1.
Chapter 3 of the Columbus Code is hereby amended by adding a new Section 3-21
to read as follows:
? (a) Pursuant to O.C.G.A. Section 3-3-7(q), we hereby direct that the
Executive Director and Board of Elections and Registration issue a call for a
referendum election on July 31, 2012 for the purpose of authorizing package
sales of malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits by retailers on Sundays
between the hours of 12:30 P.M. and 11:30 P.M. The ballot shall be worded as
provided in O.C.G.A. Section 3-3-7(q).
(b) If such Sunday sales are approved at referendum, this ordinance shall
become effective on September 1, 2012 and such Sunday sales by retailers
licensed to sell by the package may commence between the hours of 12:30 P.M.
and 11:30 P.M. on Sunday September 2, 2012.?
SECTION 2.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance
are hereby repealed.
