SUBJECT: Crime Prevention Director

Recommendation: Approve an ordinance authorizing the establishment of the
Class Title/Pay Grade of Crime Prevention Director, Grade 24 in the Position
Classification Plan of the Columbus Consolidated Government.
Background: The concept of a crime prevention director and funding for the
department was approved in the FY2010 budget. The job description was then
developed and submitted to Dr. Condrey at the University of Georgia for review
and classification. Dr. Condrey recommended placement at grade 24 but could
accept grade 25 if favored by the CCG. Mayor Wetherington supports the grade
24 recommendation.
Analysis: The Crime Prevention Director is needed to administer the department
established by Council.
Legal: The Council must authorize this change.
Financial Considerations: The salary and benefits of the Crime Prevention
Director were budgeted by Council in the FY2010 budget. Council must approve
the candidate recommended by the Mayor as well as the actual salary paid to
said candidate.
Recommendation/Actions: The Mayor and Human Resources Director recommend the
proposed addition to the Position Classification Plan.
