THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY
MINUTES OF MEETING
March 25, 2008
The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull
Creek Golf Course. Members present were Floyd Washington, Nancy Wilkeson, June
Holder, Richard Hagler, Rev. Hill and Michael Silverstein. Staff member
present was John Milam. Aubry Burt, Nan Hopkins and Donald Clack had an
excused absence.
Minutes of the February 26, 2008 meeting were not approved. We suspended the
reading of the minutes until April?s meeting.
Old Business
None.
New Business (Oxbow Creek)
Mrs. Georgette Hackett, bookkeeper for Bull Creek, will also assume the
bookkeeping duties at Oxbow Creek. Last year at Oxbow Creek, a port-a-let was
installed for the convenience of the golfers when the pro shop closes early
(two days a week). We are currently paying $80.00 per month for the rental of
the port-a-let. The women golfers have expressed their displeasure of using
the port-a-let. Mr. Milam stated that a trusted marshal, Mr. Johnson, would
open the pro shop for the golfers who wished to use the restroom. The doors
would be open and then immediately locked while occupying the building. It was
suggested that a surveillance/security camera be installed for every ones
protection at a cost of about $150.00. All members were in favor of the
installation of the camera and Mr. Johnson having a key.
New Business (Bull Creek)
The parking lot will be resealed and re-striped very soon at a cost of
$7,800.00. Several complaints have been made regarding the golfers who are
allowed to fish in the ponds at Bull Creek. Safety and liability issues were
discussed. The Authority Members unanimously agreed that no fishing will be
allowed anytime anywhere on the course.
Superintendent Report by John Milam
Steve?s crew has been working on the following: spraying Pre M on the
fairways, digging the silt out of the creek at 13 West and removal of dead
trees, especially 17 East.
Godwin Creek
No report.
Director of Golf
Bull Creek?s revenue from February 2007 through February 2008 is significantly
higher than compared to the same period last year. Lakewood Golf Course in
Phenix City is in poor shape and in turn has helped Bull Creek?s revenue.
Upcoming tournaments in the next few months should increase the revenue at Bull
Creek. Oxbow Creek?s revenues are economically generated and are lower for the
same period.
Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Acting Secretary
