SUBJECT: Columbus GA 2025 Endorsement



INITIATED BY: City Manager?s Office





Recommendation: Approve a resolution to endorse the Columbus GA 2025

Initiative.

Background: A diverse group of representatives from the public, private and

non-profit sectors came together to develop a strategic plan to lay a

foundation that allows people and businesses to thrive in the Columbus Georgia

Region. The Regional Prosperity Initiative was developed by Market Street

Services Inc. The Regional Prosperity Initiative has transformed into the

Columbus GA 2025 Initiative. The guiding principles are increasing prosperity,

reducing poverty and improving quality of life.



Analysis: The plan was developed by 4 phases: Competitive Assessment, Target

Business Analysis & Marketing Review, Regional Prosperity Initiative, and

Implementation Phase. The key findings included the following:



1. Slow Growth and Limited In-Migration

2. A Critical Need for Top Talent

3. Economic Realities

4. Income and Poverty

5. Quality of Place and Quality of Life

6. PK-12 and Higher Education

7. Business and Entrepreneurial Climate

8. Fort Benning: A Vital Asset

9. Philanthropy, Leadership and Champions



Financial Considerations: There is no direct fiscal impact



Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed the resolution.



Recommendations: Approve a resolution to endorse the Columbus GA 2025

initiative.





A RESOLUTION

NO. ________



A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE COLUMBUS 2025 INITIATIVE.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government is pleased to be a part of the

efforts to increase prosperity, reduce poverty and improve quality of life for

a stronger, more vibrant Greater Columbus Georgia Region by 2025; and,



WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government pledge to promptly identify and

implement ways in which the organization?s strategic priorities and goals can

be aligned to help the Columbus 2025 Initiative become a reality; and,



WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government hereby authorize the City Manager

to appoint representatives of the organization to support Columbus 2025 by

serving as active participants in addressing the full range of issues affecting

the region?s competitiveness, prosperity and quality of life.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:



The Columbus Consolidated Government endorses the Columbus 2025 Initiative and

agrees to hold each other accountable for speaking and behaving consistent with

these principles:



? To think and act in the best interest of the region

? To be open to new ideas

? To demonstrate a positive attitude about the region

? To collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders

? To share credit for successes and responsibility for challenges

? To speak with respect and regard for all partners in the region



Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the
