SUBJECT: Solid Waste Management Plan for Columbus, Muscogee County,
Georgia 2008-2018
INITIATED BY: Ronald Smith, Deputy Director Public Services
Recommendation: Approval is requested to adopt the Solid Waste Management
Plan for Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia 2008-2018, as approved by the
State of Georgia.
Background: The Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act required
county and municipal governments to prepare a local solid waste management plan
and periodic updates dealing with waste disposal and waste reduction within
their respective jurisdictions.
Analysis: Adoption of the Solid Waste Management Plan is in accordance with
Georgia State Law and will keep Columbus from being "Noncompliant."
Financial Considerations: Without adoption of the Solid Waste Management Plan,
Columbus would not be eligible for various grants and assistance from the State
of Georgia
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: N/A
Legal Considerations: Without adoption of the Solid Waste Management Plan
Columbus would not be in compliance with Georgia law.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested for the adoption of the Solid
Waste Management Plan for Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, 2008-2018
A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ADOPTION OF THE DOCUMENT TITLES "SOLID WASTE
MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE COLUMBUS MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GEORGIA, 2008-2018" AS
APPROVED BY THE LOWER CHATTAHOOCHEE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER AND THE
DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS FOR THE STATE OF GEORGIA.
WHEREAS, the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act requires county
and municipal governments to prepare a local solid waste management plan and
periodic update; and,
WHEREAS, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia has compiled, reviewed and modified
an update to the Solid Waste Management Plan for the Columbus Consolidated
Government including Columbus and Muscogee County; and,
WHEREAS, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia has complied with the Rules of the
Georgia Department of Community Affairs Minimum Planning Standards and
Procedures for Solid Waste Management (chapter 110-4-3) including public
participation requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The document entitled "Solid Waste Management Plan for Columbus, Muscogee
County, Georgia, 2008 ? 2018" be officially approved and adopted.
