RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, the Mayor?s Commission on Crime Prevention has submitted it?s Final
Report to the Mayor and Columbus Council;
WHEREAS, the Commission recommends plans of action in the areas of recreation,
education, drug and alcohol prevention and intervention, employment and jobs,
and community policing;
WHEREAS, the Commission began its work in January of 2009, conducting research,
interviewing providers of crime prevention programs, and investigating "best
practices" in the area of crime prevention, among other activities;
WHEREAS, additional recommendations were made concerning the creation of the
Office of Crime Prevention;
WHEREAS, this Council desires to formally receive the Final Report of the
Mayor?s Commission of Crime Prevention and to express our deep appreciation for
their diligent work on this important project.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby formally receive the Final Report of the Mayor?s Commission of Crime
Prevention and express our deep appreciation to the following members of the
Commission for their diligent work on this project: J. Frank Myers, III, Rev.
Rudy Allen, Sr., Juanita Booker, Dr. Peggy Connell, Sharon Cox-Bevley, Wallace
Davis, Mike Gaymon, Betty Jackson, Marjorie Newman, Kim Peters, Rev. Prathan
Powell, Rep. Calvin Smyre, Sam Wellborn, Cathy Williams and Robert Wilson. Let
a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the above-named members of the
Mayor?s Commission on Crime Prevention.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
22nd day of September, 2009, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative
vote of ten members of Council.
