Columbus Consolidated Government
Referrals From Mayor and Council-02/21/2007
Subject Sidwalks on Susan Lane
Description Have the staff to go out and look into the concern of the citizen
who lives on Susan Lane, which stated that there are no sidewalks within the
one-mile radius of the three schools located in that area. (Request of
Councilor Woodson)
Also, let?s make sure that when we have new development coming into the
community and if it is near a school, we need to ensure that there is a
partnership either between the developer and/or city or school system to make
sure
there are sidewalks for those children who walk to school. (Request of
Councilor Woodson)

Response 3/08/07 We are currently compiling the information on where the
sidewalks were physically installed in the area as part of the sidewalk program
done with 93 Sales Tax. The criteria used to determine the location for
sidewalks were: 1) Existing sidewalks within 1/2 mile of school. Priority
given to elementary schools. 2) Ability to connect with existing sidewalks in
order to develop travel network. 3) Number of students walking to school. 4)
Traffic demand and safety. 5) Community attractions within 1 mile of school,
i.e. parks, recreation centers, etc. Sidewalk was also scheduled as part of
DOT projects, i.e. Macon Road, Forest Road, etc.
