SUBJECT: Ivy Avenue - Street Abandonment Agenda

INITIATED BY: Engineering

Recommendation: Approval is requested of the attached ordinance deleting

from the "Official Map of the Consolidated Government of Columbus, Georgia" an

unimproved segment of Ivy Avenue, north of Talbotton Road as surplus and

authorize disposal in accordance with the City Code.

Background: Ivy Avenue has a segment of unimproved right-of-way north of

Talbotton Road. The adjacent property owner, The Housing Authority of

Columbus, Georgia (HACG) has provided a letter of no interest in the

right-of-way currently known as Ivy Avenue. Ms. Suzanne H. Corley of 1057 ?

1059 Talbotton Road has made a formal request by letter to quit claim the

unused right-of-way.

Analysis: The proposed street abandonment of this segment of Ivy Avenue will

allow access to the rear of the property at 1057 ?1059 Talbotton Road when the

Talbotton/Warm Springs Rd widening project is complete. The City?s Community

Reinvestment Department will handle the property value and disposal of said

property.

Financial Considerations: Community Reinvestment Department will evaluate the

property and determine its value, and request action from council at a later

date for sale of said property.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: There will not be an annual fiscal

impact due to this action.

Legal Considerations: The purpose of this ordinance is to declare this street

surplus and to authorize its disposal, which has to be approved by Council.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the ordinance declaring an unimproved segment

of Ivy Avenue as surplus and authorize its disposal.
