Council Members

THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY

MINUTES OF MEETING

May 22, 2007

The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull

Creek Golf Course. Members present were Floyd Washington, Donald Clack, Nancy

Wilkeson, Richard Hagler, Nan Hopkins, Willie Hill, Michael Silverstein and

June Holder. Staff members present were John Milam and Steve Brown. Aubry

Burt had an excused absence.

Minutes of the April 24, 2007 meeting were approved as presented. Motion made

by Donald Clack and seconded by Willie Hill.

Old Business

Mr. Milam addressed the issues regarding Oxbow Creek. A port-a-let has been

installed to accommodate the golfers after pro shop hours. The staff at Oxbow

Creek will make a better effort to insure that no one ?slips on the course?

without paying. Dispensing the range balls from the pro shop seems to have

corrected the use of unauthorized tokens.

Mr. Milam and Richard Hagler will meet with Mayor Wetherington on Thursday, May

24, 2007 to discuss the prison guard issues.

Mr. Mark Immelman, Columbus State Golf Coach, will bring to the Authority

Members a picture of the new teaching facility that they have proposed. A

3-bay area with cover will also be presented.

New Business

Concrete has been poured to expand the area of the 1st tee on the east course.

Twelve feet have been added to the pavilion. Concrete was also poured to the

entrance to the pro shop so individuals will not misstep when leaving the pro

shop. The cart paths on 11 West and 10 East were also repaired.

Superintendent Report by Steve Brown

The height of the mowers for the greens is down to .160. Steve would like to

have it cut at .150 to .140 range. Aeration will begin the week of June 4th on

the West Course. The East Course will begin the following week. One-half inch

tines will be used and sand will be added. The rye grass is starting to leave

the tees due to the warmer temperatures.

On May 1st, a failure occurred from the variable frequency drive on the pump

station on the west course. This was caused by a power surge from Georgia

Power. The cost to repair the pump was $6,690.00 and a claim was filed with

Georgia Power to reimburse Bull Creek. The transfer pump located at 9 fairway

on the east course has been ordered and will be shipped on June 6th at a cost

of $10,000. Bull Creek has about a 60-day supply of water without any further

rain. Oxbow Creek has approximately 30-45 day supply of water.

Prison guard, Chris Beamon, will be on leave for the next week. This will

cause a reduction in the inmate labor.

Godwin Creek

Godwin Creek is doing well. The annual campaign fund is under way. $6,000 has

been received in contributions. The Middle School matches have ended in May.

Summer camps begin in June and will go through the end of July. Approximately

40-50% of students will be under grants. Leon Dunigan has retired from

teaching. Rudy Thorne will take over the Director of Programming. He has

completed Phase II from The First Tee Program.

Nan Hopkins thanked Mr. Milam for the use of the aeration equipment. Nan also

stated the need to remove the silt from the pond. Godwin Creek has only a few

days worth of watering left.

Director of Golf

Bull Creek and Oxbow Creek expenses for 2007 compared to this time last year

are down. The revenue is higher as well for Bull Creek. Bull Creek?s revenue

is significantly higher compared to this time last year. Corporate memberships

have added a boost to the revenue collected in the month on May. Aflac leads

the way with memberships, followed by Synovus, Total Systems and Polychrome.

The snack bar has had $97,400 in revenue; expenses were $54,000, labor was

$26,000, leaving a profit of $16,400. The snack bar has $2,400 in paid-up

inventory. The pro shop is about even with $16,000 in paid inventory.

Mr. John Milam received a letter from Todd Stanfill, Brookstone?s athletic

director, thanking Bull Creek for hosting the GHSA Class A State Golf

Tournament on May 7, 2007. Although, Bull Creek did not receive any money for

hosting this tournament, the businesses in Columbus benefited from out-of-town

teams hotel and restaurant patronage.

Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
