Dear Sir or Madam:

Enclosed you will find information about becoming a Purple Heart City. Our

Chapter has members located across many Western Georgia Counties and the

Columbus area. There are hundreds of Purple Heart designated cities / and

counties across our nation and Georgia currently only has one city, Port

Wentworth, with the designation. You can see a map of the current cities

/counties at http://www.purpleheart.org/PHTrail

All that is required to become a Purple Heart City is a proclamation drawn up

and we would be happy to send a Purple Heart veteran from this area to a City

Council meeting, private meeting, or other location/ceremony for the signing

and/or presentation of the proclamation. While we encourage cities and

counties to place a sign somewhere (entrance to city / county, etc.) noting the

designation of ?Purple Heart City?, it is not required.

By becoming a Purple Heart City, you are honoring the sacrifices of those who

have served our nation and those who were wounded or killed in action.

We are currently striving to get 100 Georgia cities / counties to become Purple

Heart cities / county by Memorial Day 2014. If you have any questions or

concerns, feel free to contact me, Commander John W. Wilder, at the number

above.

We hope to be able to work with your city on this matter. Please find the

enclosed sample Proclamation and a sample signage. As long as it is available,

we will provide the city with a Purple Heart parking sign, courtesy of Wounded

Warrior Family Support, another non-profit organization that serves our nations

wounded.

Chartered by Congress in 1958, The Military Order of the Purple Heart is

composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Medal for

wounds suffered in combat. Although our membership is restricted to the combat

wounded, we support all veterans and their families with a myriad of

nation-wide programs by Chapters and National Service Officers.

I look forward to speaking with you.

Thanks again,

John W. Wilder
