SUBJECT: 2016 Georgia County Internship Program Grant/Association of
County Commissioners of Georgia Civic Affairs Foundation
INITIATED BY: Community Reinvestment Division
Recommendation: Approval is requested to apply for and accept, if award, a
grant from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia Civic Affairs
Foundations for funds up to $2,173 with a local match of up to $500 and amend
the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount awarded. The grant funding will be
utilized to hire an intern to update and organize the City Real Estate Records,
and to create a property database and marketing plan for City surplus
properties.
Background: The Association of County Commissioner of Georgia's Civic Affairs
Foundation provides summer and fall grants to hire college interns to work for
ten weeks on various projects for its member counties.
Analysis: The internal audit conducted on the Community Reinvestment Division
identified the need to create and update its Real Estate files to be more
inclusive, along with developing a property database and marketing plan for the
disposition of City surplus properties. The intern will be utilized for the
creation and implementation of these new procedures and processes for Real
Estate.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The Columbus Consolidated Government
will not be required to continue this internship when the funding has been
expended.
Financial Considerations: Up to $500 of the Real Estate General Fund Budget
may be used in conjunction with the grant for salary, FICA and Workers
Compensation, if needed.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is a member of the
Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and as such is eligible to
receive funds from the organization.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY, ACCEPT, APPROVE LOCAL MATCH
UP TO $500, IF NEEDED, AND AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE AMOUNT
AWARDED UP TO $2,173 FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF GEORGIA
CIVIC AFFAIRS FOUNDATION TO FUND A 2016 SUMMER INTERN FOR THE COMMUNITY
REINVESTMENT DIVISION FOR TEN WEEKS.
WHEREAS, funds have been made available from the Association of County
Commissioners of Georgia Civic Affairs Foundation to the Columbus Consolidated
Government?s Community Reinvestment Division for a ten-week period during the
2016 summer months; and,
WHEREAS, the funds will be used to hire a college intern to update and organize
the City Real Estate Records, and to create a property database and marketing
plan for City surplus properties; and,
WHEREAS, the Association of County Commissioner of Georgia Civic Affairs
Foundation solicited its membership to submit applications for projects that
college interns can perform over a ten-week period in the summer of 2016; and,
WHEREAS, the City will utilize up to $500 for salaries, FICA, and worker
compensation utilizing the Real Estate General Fund Budget, if needed.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The City Manager is authorized to apply, accept, approve local match up to
$500, if needed, and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the amount awarded up
to $2,173 from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia Civic Affairs
Foundation to hire an intern to update and organize the City Real Estate
Records, and to create a property database and marketing plan for City surplus
properties.
