A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Mr. Rozier Tyrone Dedwylder, the first Director of Uptown Columbus

Inc., died on February 26, 2006;



WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Architecture and he

served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a Lieutenant in the South Pacific

Theater;



WHEREAS, Mr. Dedwylder was the architect whose vision changed the

Columbus Iron Works from an old factory into a beautiful convention center, the

old Empire Mill into a modern downtown hotel and he played a significant part

in the revitalization of One Arsenal Place and the old Rankin Hotel;



WHEREAS, he also played a role in planning the beautiful RiverCenter for the

Performing Arts and was involved in planning and development of the

Chattahoochee Riverwalk;



WHEREAS, Mr. Dedwylder has also influenced the development Midtown Columbus,

including work on the renovated Columbus Museum and the Columbus Public Library

project;



WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Richards Dedwylder; two

sons, John Dedwylder and his wife Bitsy of Columbus, GA, and Dr. Rozier Davis

Dedwylder II, of King George, VA; and two grandchildren, John Davis Dedwylder

and Elizabeth Rivers Dedwylder.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of

Mr. Rozier Tyrone Dedwylder. His service to the Columbus community and his

country will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

the family of Mr. Rozier Tyrone Dedwylder.

4th day of April, 2006, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
