REFERRALS FROM MAYOR & COUNCIL

COUNCIL MEETING OF JULY 22, 2008

TO THE CITY ATTORNEY:

RESOLUTION OF CONDOLONCES:

Have the staff to prepare a resolution expressing the Council?s

condolences to the family of Mrs. Josephine Ford, as well as Mr. Leonard

Leavell. (Request of Mayor Pro Tem Turner Pugh)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------

TO THE CITY MANAGER:

FUEL SAVING TIPS:

Have the staff to air the fuel savings tips on CCG-TV that was presented

during the Council?s Work Session on Tuesday. (Request of Councilor Davis)

*** *** ***

WASTE DISPOSAL STUDY:

Have the staff to look at doing a detail study with various options; to

include composting, waste to energy, as well as land acquisition for an

additional landfill. Also, include in that study where the money we are

receiving from the citizens is going and where it?s falling short and what is

the anticipated shortfall going to be. Let?s also show the anticipated affect

on the existing life of our current operations and what it?s going to mean in

terms of what it cost to get it up and running and what the long term dollar

savings are even if we move into a new landfill site. (Request of Councilor

Henderson)

Let?s also consider the additional demands on the landfill; the increase

in the number of people in households in our community should also be factored

into this equation. (Request of Councilor Anthony)

*** *** ***

YEAR ROUND ONCE PER WEEK GARBAGE PICKUP:

Let?s not consider regular Monday garbage pickup because that?s normally

when a holiday falls; but let?s look at possibly Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

and Friday being the regular pickup days, and Monday being that special pickup

day instead of Wednesday.

Also, let?s look at the possibility of a computer in the vehicle and the

driver being able to interact with the system to inform the main office that

there are items that needs to be picked up and can inform them by computer.

(Request of Mayor Pro Tem Turner Pugh)

Let?s make sure we allow for public input on this recommendation during a

Council meeting. Also, let?s get a comparison of what other comparable cities

charge for garbage pickup; and how do we compare to other counties around us.

(Request of Councilor Anthony)

When the staff brings back this information, let?s also bring back what

the State and Federal mandates are that forced us in a position to begin

charging the $14.00 garbage collection fee. (Request of Councilor Allen)

Have the staff to provide the report to the Council that was previously

gathered several years ago regarding a composite system that we wanted to put

in place here in our area. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

*** *** ***

PUBLIC AGENDA PROPOSED OPTIONS:

Have the staff to provide further clarification with respect to the rules

that Albany City Council has whereby citizens cannot speak on a particular

subject no more than twice; let?s determine over what period of time is that.

Also, with regards to Macon, Georgia?s rules where it states citizens can

speak once on any subject; let?s determine over what period of time if they

wanted to come back and speak on that same subject; when can they come back.

(Request of Councilor Hunter)

Regarding the placement of where the Public Agenda is located, let?s have

the staff to try to come up with a definitive time so the people who get on the

Public Agenda will know when they can expect to address the Council. (Request

of Councilor Henderson)

*** *** ***

WAL-MART:

Have the staff to setup a meeting with representatives of Wal-mart to

discuss the possibility of locating land to build a Wal-mart in the South

Columbus area. (Request of Councilor Woodson)

*** *** ***

APPROVAL OF THE L.O.S.T:

Have the staff to get together with the Budget Chairperson and let?s

discuss something for the General Government employees, as well as look at

those suggestions that was made with respect to some other kind of increase for

general government employees. (Request of Councilor Woodson)
