A Resolution Authorizing THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT TO CONVERT CHEROKEE AVENUE FROM A 4-LANE ROADWAY TO
A 3-LANE ROADWAY WITH A BIKE/PEDESTRIAN LANE ALONG THE WEST SIDE BETWEEN
GARRARD STREET AND CAMILLE DRIVE; AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF A
INTERSECTION FLASHER AT THE CHEROKEE AVENUE AT SLADE DRIVE; AUTHORIZING THE
REALIGNMENT OF CAMILLE DRIVE WITH CHEROKEE AVENUE USING STOP SIGN CONTROL;
AUTHORIZING SAID IMPROVEMENTS FOR A ONE (1) YEAR TEST PERIOD AFTER WHICH TIME
THE OPERATION WILL BE ANALYZED TO BECOME PERMANENT, MODIFIED AND/OR REINSTATED
TO THE ORIGINAL 4-LANE LAYOUT. whereas, an accident history identified that 6 vehicles have crashed into Weracoba Creek
over the last 6 years; and,
whereas, several alternatives were considered to improve traffic safety and operation to
include public input on the most desirable improvement; and,
WHEREAS, a conversion of Cherokee Avenue from a 4-lane roadway to a 3-lane
roadway with a bike/pedestrian lane along the west side to be the most
desirable improvement; and,
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends the installation of a 3-lane roadway with
a bike/pedestrian lane along the west side for a one (1) year test period after
which the operation will be analyzed.
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to convert Cherokee Avenue
from a 4-Lane roadway to a 3-Lane roadway with a Bike/Pedestrian lane along
the west side between Garrard Street and Camille Drive; Authorizing the
installation of a intersection flasher at Cherokee Avenue an Slade Drive;
Authorizing the realignment of Camille Drive with Cherokee Avenue using stop
sign control; Authorizing said improvements for a one(1) year test period
after which time the operation will be analyzed to become permanent, modified
and /or reinstated to the original 4-lane layout.
Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the _________ day of _____________ and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of _____________ members of said Council.
