A Resolution Authorizing THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS FOR A
$40,000 QUALITY GROWTH GRANT FOR THE MIDTOWN PROJECT. whereas, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs has the Quality Growth Grant
Program designed to fund implementation of smart growth activities by local
governments across the State; and,
whereas, the City of Columbus seeks $40,000 to finance professional consultants who in
conjunction with the Mid Town Project will develop a long range comprehensive
plan to re-establish this historic, suburban area as a community; and,
WHEREAS, City employees will participate in this planning process and
ultimately this Council will review this plan and consider its incorporation
into the long range comprehensive plan of the City of Columbus; and,
WHEREAS, the plan will address issues in the community including land use,
traffic patterns, commercial retail and office development, neighborhood
schools, transportation connections and safety and crime; and,
WHEREAS, the project will be guided by a steering committee, which is a public
private partnership of city officials and representatives of various
stakeholders within the community, and the steering committee and the
consultants will provide numerous opportunities for community input; and,
WHEREAS, the City, the Historic Columbus Foundation and the Regional
Development Council will share in the match with cash and in-kind
contributions.
That the Mayor and/or City Manager are hereby authorized to submit an application and if approved accept a $40,000 Quality Growth Grant from the Department of Community Affairs, and/or hereby authorized t o execute all documents related thereto and further; we also hereby authorize the budget to be increased by the amount of the grant if approved..
Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the day of and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of members of said Council.
