A Resolution Authorizing THE SUBMITTAL OF THE 2003 UPDATE TO CHAPTER 8 OF THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN whereas, the Georgia Planning Act, enacted by the Georgia Legislature in 1989, mandates
that every local government in the State of Georgia shall prepare a
comprehensive plan in order to be a "Qualified Local Government" for
consideration of state funding; and,
whereas, the City has prepared such a plan through its Development Resource Center,
which addresses the needs and goals of the community for a twenty year period;
and,
WHEREAS, the development of the Plan includes extensive citizen participation,
involving two series of public hearings which have been in accordance with the
Georgia Planning Act; and,
WHEREAS, the Council has reviewed the proposed Comprehensive Plan and has found
it to be a document that will serve as a guide for the effective use of the
City's resources and the proper development of land area.
1. That the 2003 Update to Chapter 8 of the Comprehensive Plan is hereby
adopted as the Amendment to the Comprehensive Plan for the Columbus
Consolidated Government.
2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit on behalf of the City of
Columbus, a copy of this plan to the Lower Chattahoochee Regional Development
Center and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, for their review,
comments, and approval.
