A Resolution Authorizing THE CITY TO ACCEPT GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $500,000 TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
OFFICE OF SCHOOL READINESS USDA SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE
CITY TO ACCEPT THE MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NUTRITION PROGRAM TO ACT AS
VENDOR OF THE PROGRAM. ADDITIONALLY, TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS USDA APPROVED SNACKS
THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR 2004 AS THIS PROGRAM IS RUN DURING THE SUMMER,
FISCAL YEARS 2004 AND 2005 ARE INCLUDED IN ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS. whereas, when school closes for the summer, an important source of nutritious meals for
many low income children is lost. The Parks and Recreation Department,
Community Schools Division provides this Summer Lunch Program and subsequent
snack program during the summer vacation period and throughout the school and
fiscal year 2004-2005 and provides meals to children who might not otherwise
receive nutritious meals; and,
whereas, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department administers the After School
Program in 55 locations throughout the city.
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and accept
$500,000 in grant funding from the Office of School Readiness for the
Department of Parks and Recreation, Community Schools Division to participate
in the Georgia Department of Education, Office of School Readiness Summer Lunch
Program and subsequent snack program.
