A Resolution Authorizing THE FILING OF A GRANT APPLICATION FROM FEDERAL SAVE AMERICA'S TREASURE IN THE

AMOUNT OF $149,000.00 TO THE CITY OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA TO REHABILITATE "THE

MOTHER OF THE BLUES" MA RAINEY HOUSE. whereas, the restoration of the Ma Rainey house will create a living memorial for both

an artistic and visual year round program of the blues by the Friends of the Ma

Rainey Museum of the Blues Inc, a non-profit organization for "The Mother of

the Blues" Ms. Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, and;
whereas, the City of Columbus, Georgia agrees to match the grant funds through the 1999

SPLOST (151,000); and,
WHEREAS, it has been determined to be in the best interest of the City of

Columbus, Georgia to obtain a grant and fully restore the Ma Rainey house.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if

approved accept $149,000 from the Federal Save America's Treasure and authorize

matching funds from the 1999 SPLOST ($151,000).

2. The Director of Finance is authorized to adjust the Liberty District

Redevelopment Project and establish Ma Rainey Project in 1999 SPLOST to accept

the grant funding.
