A Resolution Authorizing TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND APPROVED ACCEPT A $10,000 GRANT FROM GENERAL
MILLS. THIS GRANT WILL ALLOW COLUMBUS PARKS AND RECREATION COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
DIVISION TO IMPLEMENT A HEALTH, NUTRITION AND FITNESS PROGRAM FOR YOUTH AND FOR
THE CITY TO ACCEPT THE MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NUTRITION PROGRAM TO ACT
AS THE VENDOR FOR FOOD OF THE PROGRAM. whereas, the Before/After School/Summer Program administered by the Columbus Parks and
Recreation Department offers activities to youth; and,
whereas, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department administers the After School
Program in 32 locations throughout the city during the school year and 5
locations throughout the summer; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department provides daily
nutritious meals and snacks to program participants at no significant cost to
the city; and,
WHEREAS, the need for wholesome nutritional and fitness activities are
offered to participants for one hour each weekday with nutritional components
included; and,
WHEREAS, the need for fitness and nutritional guidelines and
programming are vital to the health and stability of all youth.
That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit an
application and if approved accept $10,000 in grant funds from General Mills in
conjunction with the President's Challenge for youth health and well-being in
the after-school programs and day camps. This grant will be used for a
nutrition and fitness program of Columbus Parks and Recreation. Authorization
is also requested to amend the Multi-Grant Fund by a like amount.
